The last Sabbath of February I made a surprise visit to the Abundant Life Seventh-day Adventist Church in Wenatchee, WA (UC Conf). It was like coming home since I had the privilege of coaching the group who planted the church and being their first pastor. Services began in February 2003 at the conclusion of evangelistic meetings by Rich Cavaness. The Wenatchee church was the mother church until Abundant Life became a company in fall of 2003. The church was organized on Sabbath May 8, 2004, with three people added through baptism that day.
On the Sabbath I visited they had two adult Sabbath School classes and three children’s & youth classes. I received a bear hug greeting and the wonderful news that the next Sabbath another person would be added to the church through baptism. Every other Tuesday night there is a meal, prayer and classes for the community (e.g. Boundaries, sign language, etc.). The pastor preaches once per month and the members preach the remaining Sabbaths.
Their preaching calendar is designed around chapters from Acts of the Apostles, which will be followed by The Desire of Ages. Abundant Life is currently in a $13 million renovation project! (They use a public middle school!) Abundant Life is part of a three church district (Wenatchee- about 625 members, Leavenworth- about 50 members, Abundant Life- about 50 members) with two pastors (there is a search for the associate at the time of this writing.) Praise the Lord for that bright light on the south side of Wenatchee.
