WHAT WORKS FOR ME…Explaining the Sabbath truth to those who haven’t heard it before

Jesus and the Sabbath

INTRODUCTION- God is God because of His Creatorship (Genesis 1:1; Revelation 4:11)Jesus Christ is the God who created (John 1:3; Colossians 1:16)

1. Jesus CREATED the Sabbath At the end of creation week, God (Jesus) created the Sabbath (Genesis 2:1-3) He put into it Restorative properties for healing the total person Physical = “Rested” Mental = “Blessed” Spiritual = “Sanctified”

2. Jesus COMMANDED the Sabbath When God organized Israel into a nation (His chosen people) He gave them the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17)The God who spoke and wrote the Ten Commandments is the One who led them out of Egypt with a cloud, through the Red Sea, and provided them with food and water (Exodus 20:1, 2)The God who did all that was Christ (1 Corinthians 10:1-4)Christ spoke and wrote the Ten Commandments including the Sabbath commandment (Exodus 20:8-11)

3. Jesus KEPT the Sabbath When Jesus lived on earth He kept the Sabbath (Luke 4:16)

4. Jesus CONFIRMED the Sabbath When there was discussion, Jesus confirmed the Sabbath (Matthew 12:12) “It is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

5. Jesus COMMENDED the Sabbath When talking with His church leaders about the future, He told them to pray about Sabbath keeping (Matthew 24:20) “Pray that your flight be not … on the Sabbath day.”

6. Jesus CLAIMED the Sabbath Jesus said that He was Lord of the Sabbath Mark 2:27, 28 “Son of Man is Lord also of the Sabbath Day.”

It is impossible to separate Jesus from the Sabbath. Created CommandedJesus Kept the Sabbath Confirmed Commended Claimed 1 John 2:6 “Whoever says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.”
