An Army of Pathfinder Soul Winners at the NPUC Camporee!

2007 Sabbath MorningIn the summer of 1902 delegates had gathered for the General Conference session. On Sabbath morning Ellen White stood up and gave a message that would be incorporated into the book Education the following year. Part of that message included this powerful vision-

“With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world! How soon might the end come,– the end of suffering and sorrow and sin. How soon, in place of a possession here, with its blight of sin and pain, our children might receive their inheritance where “there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.” Rev. 21:4.” {GCB, July 1, 1902 par. 23}

This past weekend (September 13-17) many of us had the opportunity to see an army of soul winning Pathfinders at the NPUC Pathfinder Camporee at Discovery Bay, WA near Port Townsend. Here are some of the highlights of this Camporee, held every five years–

  • Over 2,000 were present on Sabbath, including the 1,766 Registered Pathfinders and Staff from every conference in the NPUC except Alaska
  • Over 200 made commitments to Jesus on Friday evening after the message by Elder James Black, North American Division Youth Director. Over 50 of these requested preparation for baptism soon.
  • A 17 year old Pathfinder staff member was baptized outdoors by Wayne Hicks, Upper Columbia Conf Pathfinder Director, Sabbath morning at the close of the worship service.
  • Several teen Pathfinders from the Hayden Lake, ID Pathfinder Club (Upper Columbia Conf) were interviewed Saturday night about the ShareHim Nicaragua Evangelistic meetings they held this summer. Over 400 people were baptized as a result. They challenged every club to join them in doing a similar evangelistic series here in the northwest.
  • Ben Glenn, “The Chalk Guy,” shared his testimony Saturday night of how God had helped him overcome learning disabilities and use his talents for the Lord.
  • A promotional video was shown about the International Camporee scheduled for summer of 2009 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The theme is “Courage to Stand” with nightly programs centering around the life of Esther in the Bible. (If you don’t have a Pathfinder club in your church, now is the time to recruit a leader. Your elders/church board can help encourage this and your conference Pathfinder/Youth Director provides training and resources.)
  • Song leading was provided by Jacob, Dustin and Danesa Serns and their friends Trisha Moor and Dustin Leek
  • Here are the words to the theme song “You Are My World” (The words with the chords can be found at the end of this post.)–

    • Verse 1:

      • My Father I adore You more than anything my heart could wish for,
      • I just want You
      • And all my days are gifts from You, I pray I’d use them as You want me to,
      • Use them for You
    • Prechorus:
      • And angels come and adore You
      • And we Your children worship You
    • Chorus:
      • You are my World, You are my God,
      • And I lay down my life for You
      • You are my Lord, the One that I love,
      • No one could ever take Your place
    • Verse 2:
      • Sometimes I feel I’m lost out in the ocean of the world I live in,
      • So far from You
      • You throw Your life preserver down to me revealing your compassion,
      • You cry I love you
    • Prechorus:
      • I’ve witnessed all Your love and I adore You
      • I’ll tell the world I worship You
    • Chorus:
      • You are my World, You are my God,
      • And I lay down my life for You
      • You are my Lord, the One that I love,
      • No one could ever take Your place
    • Bridge (4x):
      • Discovering Your presence
      • Basking in Your mercy
      • I live for You, and You alone
      • I bow to You my Lord and King
    • Chorus:
      • You are my World, You are my God,
      • And I lay down my life for You
      • You are my Lord, the One that I love,
      • No one could ever take Your place
