Advent Movements – Knowles, Patzer

Merlin Knowles – to Montana Conference President from Northern New England Conference Executive Secretary. The Montana Conference executive committee, meeting Monday, Oct. 18, in Bozeman, Mont., elected Merlin L. Knowles as conference president. Knowles, who currently serves as executive secretary for the Northern New England Conference, has accepted the invitation to join the Montana Conference. He hopes to arrive sometime in November to fill the administrative role left open since former president John Loor Jr., assumed the position of North Pacific Union Conference executive secretary earlier this month. Knowles expects to complete a Doctor of Ministry degree in family ministry by year end. He and his wife, Cheryl, are well-known for their joint seminars on marriage and family issues. Read more


AJ Patzer – to sleeping in Jesus from retired Seventh-day Adventist conference president, church leader and pastor. AJ Patzer died October 10 at Wheatland Village in Walla Walla, Wash. He died peacefully at his residence where he had remained after being diagnosed with bone cancer in June, two weeks after his 90th birthday. Early in his career, Patzer worked in the Washington and Montana conferences. His last assignment before retirement in 1985 was as assistant to Neal Wilson, then General Conference president. Patzer is preceded in death by his wife, Pearl, in 2001 and his only child, Jere, in 2008. He is survived by daughter-law, Sue; grandchildren, Darin and Natalie; Troy and Renee; Carissa and four great-grandchildren. Memorial services are still being finalized. Read more
