I love doing Bible studies with earnest seekers. Few things will thrill my heart more than personal evangelism, however, I think I have discovered something that stirs me up even more. While I did not study with them, save on a few occasions, Lauren Peterson, a student at Walla Walla University, led two ladies to Christ. I must admit that the experience is as old as the apostles themselves, but watching it work in the lives of Naleesa Reiswig and Sonya Karmy moved my joy to a new level. Paul said to Timothy, “So then My son, Be strong in the grace that is in Jesus Christ. And the things you have heard me say in front of many witnesses, entrust to those who will be able to teach others.”
In all the evangelistic efforts we conduct, the real thrill is still in the opening of God’s word and watching the Bible transform us from death to life. Even more, Lauren has inspired Naleesa and Sonya to commit to giving studies to something else. They will be called upon. They will be trained. They will be deployed to extend the invitation for someone else to come to Christ. On the day of their baptism I witnessed the apostolic legacy of discipleship at work, and praised the Savior for such a simple, life changing way of drawing people back to their Redeemer and Lord.
